The Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program is known as EHEAP for short. It is offered by the Department of Elder Affairs which helps low-income households with at least one person age 60 and older. The help is for emergency energy related costs during the year. This agency offers pet-friendly shelter. It is available during storm season in the event of a storm or other natural disaster. Pre-registration opens every year on the first of May. The shelter is only for those who live in a mandatory evacuation zone or mobile home. It is also for those who live in sub-standard housing.
