Child Life Services - Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

The goal of this program is to reduce the stress a child has during a hospital stay. Specially trained Child Life Specialists work to help the child learn coping skills. They use play therapy to help the child understand and cope with their upcoming medical procedures. They assist the siblings of a child who has died and help them to understand and say good-bye. The team also works with families and help parents to cope with the challenges of parenting a sick child.

Bereavement Services- Gulfside Regional Hospice

GRH offers services to help those cope with the loss of a loved one. They offer support groups that meet weekly in several locations. Counselors offer guidance and support with individual and family counseling. Mending Hearts is a program for children and teens. The Telephone Assurance Program (TAP) offers additional support by phone.

Gulfside holds Community Memorial Services twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. It offers family members a chance to remember loved ones. They are open to all who have experienced a loss.

Gulfside Regional Hospice

This agency provides hospice care to those living with life limiting illness. Their goal is that every patient knows dignity, peace and comfort during end-of-life care. Nurses are on call 24/7. Staff doctors offer pain management and home visits. Chaplains are available to offer spiritual care. Volunteers offer respite care to caregivers. Social workers help patients and families to cope during difficult times.

Children's Home, Inc. (The)

This agency provides many services to children and their families. They have counseling. They have a residential treatment home for abused and neglected kids. They have a school for residents of the program. They have programs to reduce and prevent child abuse.

ALS - Care Assist Program

This agency provides a full range of services to people with ALS. Newly diagnosed clients can go to the website to register and find support groups. They can get temporary loaner medical equipment at no cost. The Care Assist Program helps families get discounts for nondurable medical equipment. They can also get grants for home and van modificatons.
