Florida KidCare

The state of Florida offers health insurance for children from birth through age 18, even if one or both parents are working. It includes four different parts.

Some of the services Florida KidCare covers are:

Florida Rural Legal Services

FRLS provides free civil legal assistance to indigent families and low-income elderly people in thirteen counties in South Central Florida. FRLS also provides legal assistance to migrant workers throughout the state of Florida.

Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches - Harmony In The Street Mobile Camping (Region 2)

This agency has a mobile camping program. It combines Summer Camp and Youth Camp and offers it to areas that may be socially and/or economically challenged. The aim of this program is to teach youth how to use their free time in a positive manner. They will develop a high level of self esteem and learn positive leadership skills. It also helps them to accept others and appreciate the cultural differences of all. Please call for more information.

Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches - Residential Care Services (Region 2)

Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches provides residental care to children in need. It is for ages 8 through 18. Youth are cared for by "cottage parents" who help them develop a strong work ethic, sense of teamwork and self respect. Each child must be recommended by the local Sheriff. Friendship Cafés- Senior Friendship Centers

Nutritious, healthy food is provided at The Friendship Cafés to people 60+. Enjoy a friendly atmosphere, often with live entertainment, bringing people together to enjoy a meal. Come early to play cards, games and socialize.

A suggested donation of $3 is asked to help cover the cost of the meals. While no one is denied a meal if unable to pay, the contribution helps us provide more meals for elders in our community.

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance.

Healthy Families of Charlotte County

Healthy Families Florida offers services prenatally or at the birth of a baby to families who are voluntarily assessed as needing Healthy Families services using the validated Healthy Families Florida Assessment Tool (HFFAT).

Services can last for up to five years depending on the needs of the family. In addition to being pregnant or having just given birth, the family must reside in the targeted zip code area where services are provided and score 13 or above on the HFFAT. Families who have an open child protection case at the time of assessment are not eligible for Healthy Families Florida.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a federally funded Block Grant provided through the Florida Department of Community Affairs providing one time per year home energy assistance grant to eligible households for the purpose of heating or cooling their homes. The program may assist with emergency energy assistance under certain situations. The grant is paid directly to the consumer’s energy vendor. Households may also be referred to the Weatherization program serving Charlotte County who may assist with energy conservation.
