Counseling - Orlando Youth Alliance Service (LGBTQ)

This service is for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, or Questioning (GLBTQ) youth age 20 or under. It is for those who are in a bad situation at home, school or having some other issue or problem related to their sexuality. Orlando Youth Alliance is here to intervene and help with those problems. The OYA can provide:

  • A safe place to meet friends
  • Counseling options
  • Help in dealing with parents who don’t understand your sexuality
  • Mediation at school
  • Web links to find help on your own

Florida Department of Education - McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities gives students with special needs the chance to attend a private school. The program is for students in grades K-12. Please see the website for more information.

Florida KidCare

The state of Florida offers health insurance for children from birth through age 18, even if one or both parents are working. It includes four different parts.

Some of the services Florida KidCare covers are:

  • Hospital
  • Mental health
  • Prescriptions
  • Surgery
  • Vision and hearing

National Runaway Safeline - Home Free Program

This agency works with Greyhound Lines to provide free bus tickets home to runaway youth. It is for those who are ages 12 through 20.

If you are under 18, you will be asked if there is a runaway report filed in your hometown. If you are not sure, NRS will advise.

A trained phone counselor will set up a conference call between you and your parents. A plan of action will then be determined. Then, Greyhound will be contacted and travel arrangements will be made.

If you are over 18, you will have the choice to go to transitional housing if it is not possible to return to your family.
